À l'image d'Instagram qui a annoncé un renforcement des mesures pour connaitre l'âge de ses utilisateurs, YouTube va mettre en place dans les prochains mois un système de vérification en Europe, en lien avec la directive Services de médias audiovisuels (SMA) récemment révisée.
Lorsque YouTube ne parvient pas à déterminer si un utilisateur a bien l'âge requis pour regarder une vidéo destinée aux plus de 18 ans — en raison d'un contenu violent, par exemple —, la plateforme réclamera la production d'une carte d'identité ou d'une carte bancaire. Les détails ne sont pas encore connus, mais le processus de vérification restera dans le cadre des principes de sécurité et de confidentialité de Google.
